You will simply need to activate the new card upon receipt and destroy your old card. No other action needed. Read the information below to learn more about EMV/Chip Cards.
What is a chip card? Chip cards (also known as "EMV" cards) have an embedded chip to hold data that is needed to process payment transactions. Simply put, chip cards make your life easier. When you make purchases in stores, the smart chip adds a layer of security to the transaction as it creates a unique transaction code that cannot be used again. This helps to significantly reduce counterfeit card fraud.
At terminals that are chip-enabled you will simply insert your chip card and follow the prompts on the screen. During the payment process, always use the chip reader when available.
How does it work?
Note: The experience may differ slightly depending on terminal used.
1. Insert your chip card into the reader.
2. Approve the amount.
3. Enter your PIN or signature as required.
4. Remove your chip card when prompted.
When will they be available?
Hickory Point Bank will begin replacing cards in April 2017 based on their expiration dates. The card you receive will have the same number and PIN as your existing card. Upon receipt, you will simply need to activate the new card and destroy your old card. As always, if you have questions, we are here to help you through the process.
