SYDNEY MCNAMARA NAMED HPB MERIT SCHOLAR OF THE YEAR
Receives $5,000 scholarship from Hickory Point Bank
Sydney McNamara has been named Hickory Point Bank’s Merit Scholar of the Year, and will receive a $5,000 scholarship from the Bank. Ms. McNamara is a graduating senior from St. Teresa High School and was chosen out of 28 students representing seven area high schools to receive the award.
Three Runners-Up were also announced: Michael Less (1st Runner Up, $1,000 scholarship), Jake Shumaker (2nd Runner Up, $500 scholarship), and Alexandria Huck (3rd Runner Up, $250 scholarship).
“It is a pleasure to recognize Ms. McNamara as our Merit Scholar of the Year and all twenty-eight Merit Scholars,” said Anthony G. Nestler, President & CEO. “Their achievement and promise is inspiring to us all and serves as a wonderful reminder that bright days are ahead.”
About Ms. McNamara
Ms. McNamara is ranked first in her graduating class. She was a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Student Council, Drama Club, Serviam Club and Track & Field. Ms. McNamara is a Good Samaritan Inn volunteer and is active in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. Her hobbies include running, playing the piano, and baking.
Ms. McNamara is the daughter of Brian and Tammy McNamara of Decatur, and plans to study Biomedical Engineering at Saint Louis University.

Created for Decatur area high school seniors, HPB Merit Scholars Program recognizes the top four students from seven area high schools where the bank has a presence: Eisenhower, MacArthur, St. Teresa, LSA, Decatur Christian, Maroa-Forsyth, and Mt. Zion. Each high school submitted four merit scholars based on an objective rating system.
